“Green Expectations have done a fantastic job in renovating our neglected vegetable patch area of the garden. Ian listened to what we wanted and gave us a detailed description of what he would do, the materials involved and how long it would take. Previously the area had looked rundown and unloved but now it has been transformed to be a part of the garden we love to spend time in, with the children, teaching them where vegetables come from! The raised sleeper beds are really well put together and I’m sure will last a long time. The planting Ian suggested is attractive and colourful. Green Expectations were professional and efficient throughout the work and I would be more than happy to recommend them.”

Wimbledon Park Project - New Lawn, Raised Planting Beds and Children's Play Area

Brief

The client’s home in Wimbledon Park was overgrown and neglected and in need of a complete overhaul, the clients wanted their 3 young children to be able to play in and enjoy the garden. The brief was to design and build an attractive back garden that had different sections of interest, including a play area, a new lawn, fencing and different areas of bee-friendly planting.

Description

We started by clearing and removing the overgrown weeds, nettles and ivy. The unwanted patio slabs were removed and a new fence installed around 3 sides of the garden. The different sections of the garden were then mapped out. We dug up the old lawn and rotavated the ground before leveling. We built the raised beds out of oak sleepers and installed a decorative brick edging. We filled the beds with organic compost and selected a range of attractive flowering herbaceous plants to fill it. The play area was covered with child friendly play bark and a playhouse was installed and built. Along the fencing we installed wire supports and planted fragrant evergreen climbers all around.

Result

The area was transformed into an attractive child friendly garden with flowering plants and a new lawn for the clients to enjoy. The fencing provided privacy so the clients could relax and enjoy their garden without being overlooked.

Brief

The client’s front garden in their Surrey home had a poor quality lawn which was full of moss and not much else! The client wanted the garden renovated to be interesting and attractive with a pond feature, new lawn, herbaceous border and a grasses bed.

Description

The old lawn was taken up with a turf cutter and the whole site rotavated and levelled. The pond area was dug out and the linings laid, before setting Yorkshire stones around the outside, to frame the pond and keep the lining in place. A selection of grasses were planted (Calamagrostis 'Karl Foerster', Festuca glauca, Pennisetum alopecuroides, to name a few!) along with Perovskia ‘Blue Spire’ and Verbena bonariensis to add colour. Washed Scottish pebbles were used around the pond and grass area to add an attractive top layer. These light coloured pebbles framed the pond and complemented the grasses. The herbaceous bed area was mulched with a local organic compost to be ready for planting. The suggested planting included Sedum, Alchemilla, Phormium, Hydrangea, Anemome and Geranium. Tulip bulbs were also planted for Spring colour. The lawn was marked out with a flexible steel lawn edging. Sand was spread on the lawn area to improve the drainage and level the surface, a lawn fertiliser was then applied. Finally, high quality Rolawn lawn turfs were laid to complete the project.

Result

The client’s front garden was completely transformed with many new areas of interest. They report that there have been many compliments in favour of their new front garden. The large pond adds a new feature, surrounded by attractive and interesting planting and finished with a brand new, high quality lawn.

"We asked Ian Dubois of Green Expectations to give our back garden in Ealing a ‘face-lift’ after it was used as a virtual building site during our recent kitchen extension which pretty much destroyed it.   The work took two days: the first was spent clearing away all the rubbish, dead and unwanted plants, preparing the beds for the new bedding plants and preparing the old grass area for the new turf.  On day two Ian planted a beautiful collection of flowers, plants (including a terrific Japanese Maple tree) and laying the turf expertly.  On our request Ian also provided the perfect place for a herb garden and provided the herbs for it.  Ian was extremely enthusiastic and we loved his ideas and suggestions for flowering plants which he sourced for us.  We also liked his ideas on how to re-use some of our existing plants and climbers.  We wanted the garden finished by Easter as we had family visiting - Ian transformed it on time and we are absolutely delighted with it.  The family were blown away with the look.  We cannot recommend Ian highly enough and would have no hesitation in using Green Expectations again."

"Green Expectations were originally recommended to us when our previous gardeners were unable to continue.  Since the very first communication with Ian, we have found him to be extremely responsive, reliable and easy to deal with. Ian visited the site and provided us with a precise and reasonably priced annual maintenance programme.  He attends monthly and the visits include pruning, weeding and maintenance, removal of green waste and in addition, seasonal bedding plants twice a year (autumn and spring). All works have been carried out to a very high standard and we do no hesitate to recommend Ian Dubois of Green Expectations."
